Not fit for purpose
For what it is, this is one of the more expensive items I’ve ever purchased on Amazon, but it’s the only 5-cable connector I have ever seen. The photographs on the site illustrate my points below, so maybe I was warned and over-optimistic. Two of the photos have fitting instructions.The base cannot be mounted on a surface as the screws for the cable clamp also serve to also connect cover and base. Mounting it upside down is clearly not a viable option.A photograph shows a cable without its casing at the point of entry. This would make fitting the wires much easier although even if this is allowed by regulations, as the clamp is half-rounded it would be insecure and a poor strain relief. My experience of wiring with so little space is that it requires great precision.Some strength (a security feature) is needed to separate top from bottom (noting the latches), my wife couldn’t. With use it might get easier but as the two ends cannot be separated without removing the clamping screws this is unlikely. It is not like the permanently wired multi-way easily-separated connectors you find on eg electric blankets. As it is a not a plug and socket, but a semi-permanent connector, this may not be an issue.Writing this has made me realise I have to return the item. TeslaUk is a small business and as such I would like to support it. The company has apparently been around for 20 years or more and has a wide range of products so I am surprised they are stocking this item. TeslaUK no relation to Tesla UK despite some similarity in name and logo.
