Amazon Launches Low-Cost Shopping App, Amazon Bazaar, in Over a Dozen Markets

On Friday, Amazon announced the debut of Amazon Bazaar, a new low-cost shopping destination for Asia, Africa, and Latin America that will be available separately from the main Amazon shopping app. The move is seen as an effort to ramp up competition with low-cost Chinese shopping apps like Temu, Shein, and TikTok Shop, which have gained popularity among younger users and those with limited disposable income.

The Amazon Bazaar app offers “hundreds of thousands” of affordable products in categories like fashion, home goods, and lifestyle products, with most products available under $10 and some as low as $2. The app is currently available in Hong Kong, the Philippines, Taiwan, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Peru, Ecuador, Argentina, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Nigeria, with plans to expand to more markets in the coming months.

Similarities with Amazon Haul

Amazon Bazaar has significant overlap with Amazon Haul, which launched last November as a competitor to Shein and Temu. Amazon Haul operates as part of Amazon’s main website and app and will remain available in its existing markets, including the U.S., UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, and Australia. In other markets, Amazon had already branded Amazon Haul as Bazaar, where it’s been available through Amazon’s main shopping app.

Despite the similarities, Amazon believes that using different names for the same low-cost selection of inventory “better resonates with local language preferences and cultures.” The company has also noted that Amazon Haul will continue to be available in Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, in addition to the new Amazon Bazaar app.

Features and Benefits

The Amazon Bazaar app offers customers a range of features, including customer reviews and star ratings, as well as interactive elements like social lucky draws and promotions. New customers will also receive 50% off their first delivery as an incentive to try the app. Orders can be placed using Amazon credentials, and customers can use Visa, Mastercard, or American Express for payment.

Shipments typically take around 2 weeks or less, and returns are free within 15 days of receipt. Amazon also offers multilingual customer support, and the app itself supports six languages: English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, and Traditional Chinese.
