Oura Ring 4 Ceramic review: a colorful glow up

Oura Ring 4 Ceramic review: a colorful glow up

Introduction to the Oura Ring 4 Ceramic

Most tech wearables on the market are often bulky and lack a certain aesthetic appeal. However, when it comes to wearables that are designed to be worn on the hands, such as smart rings, users typically want a device that not only tracks their health and fitness metrics but also looks stylish and blends in with their jewelry. This is where the Oura Ring 4 Ceramic comes in, a new smart ring from Oura that prioritizes both style and substance.

Design and Features

The Oura Ring 4 Ceramic is the company’s first collection of smart rings that don’t feature metallic finishes. Instead, they are made from zirconia ceramic, a more wear-resistant material that allows for both style and comfort. The ring comes in four different colors: Midnight (dark blue), Cloud (white), Tide (light teal), and Petal (light pink), and is priced at $500, which is $150 more than the starting price of the standard Ring 4.

In terms of design, the Oura Ring 4 Ceramic is slightly thicker than the original Ring 4, measuring 3.51 mm in thickness compared to the titanium version’s 2.88 mm. However, the difference is not noticeable, and the ring feels comfortable and lightweight on the finger. The weight of the ring varies between 5.1 to 8.1 grams, depending on the size, making it heavier than the titanium Ring 4.

Finish and Feel

The Oura Ring 4 Ceramic has a smooth finish that is not prone to collecting fingerprints, unlike the titanium versions of the Ring 4. The zirconia ceramic material gives the ring a warm and less slick feel, which can sometimes make it feel “sticky” on the fingers. However, this is a minor issue that can be easily gotten used to. Oura claims that the color on the rings comes from natural minerals in the ceramic itself, which means it stays vibrant and doesn’t fade over time.

Durability

Oura warns that the Ring 4 Ceramic can be prone to scuffs from softer metals, such as those found in cookware or dumbbells. The company recommends using the Polishing Pad that comes with the ring to address these scuffs. However, in my experience, the ring held up well to daily wear and tear, and any marks or smudges could be easily cleaned away with a shirt or sweater.
