I am the proud owner of two amazing dogs, Jasper and Storm
I am the proud owner of two amazing dogs, Jasper and Storm, brother and sister and a cross between a black lab mother and a blue merl collie father. They come from working stock, and are therefore extremely intelligent and eager to learn. They love to play. They are now fully family pets, loveable and excited. When I saw this book I had to get a copy, as we are running out of ideas of tricks and things to teach them. They pick things up so quickly and we will all have so much fun playing the games in this book. There are pictures for each game to indicate whether it is interactive solo or where they can play as a pair, where it can be played, the level of difficulty, and whether any props or toys are used. Some of these great games are: Puppy Play, Hide and Seek, Egg and Spoon Race, Mini Agility Course but also useful things such as ‘Find my keys’, ‘put rubbish in the bin’, ‘tidy your toys’ and ‘close the door’. When we have mastered these, I want them to learn to pick up socks and put them in the washer! Great fun for all of us I hope that you find it useful – if so then please use the option to say so, and if you need any further information then get in touch and I will do my best to answer.

    Definitely recommend
This book has been a really good buy. There’s all sorts in to keep your dogs entertained and most of it seems really achievable. I like the way it breaks the techniques down as well so that trying to train the dogs becomes really enjoyable and not too stressful like it often has when I’ve tried in the past. There are some fun activities and ideas, however it also covers some basic commands which is good too.I only have a mild critism with this book… My collie was born deaf and it would be a good idea if the activities could give some tips on adapting the techniques for deaf dogs. This isn’t a major complaint as there is a lot of enmphasis on hand signals and body language anyway so it is just a case of trying to adapt that, but a bit of advise would help.Overall, I really do recommend this book! We’re already starting to have a lot of fun with it and we haven’t even tackled any of the major stuff yet.

Must Buy for any dog owner!
Really fantastic book very insightful and doesn’t drag on and makes it easy for any dog owner to mentally challenge their dogs by breed and plenty of useful tips. I loved how the book had the level of difficulty next to each activity and has easy picture references to follow so you can start off with some easy activities and then progress to the more advanced ones. I personally got so may ideas from this book and it helped me to understand how to fulfill each breed and to also prevent certain behavioral issues such as digging or chewing as the games and activities listed on the book gives them a positive alternative in order to fulfill their working needs. 10/10

    Basic – very, very basic!
I read the reviews on here saying it is more of a fundamental training book – and I was OK with that as I certainly don’t class myself as an experienced trainer. With two 4-year-old cocker spaniels that are moderately ok in terms of training, we got a rescue beagle bitch at 8 months. She is highly intelligent, agile and energetic – and demands a lot of attention. She is very destructive and clever at stealing – as you might expect from a dog with an unsettled beginning in life. We got this book based on advice from the vet that “Brain Games” are an ideal way to train and stimulate the dog. However, this book takes basic to the very first fundamentals, and anyone who has previously owned a dog will almost certainly have either learned or thought up these “Brain Games” themselves – put some treats in a bottle, play hide and seek, praise for chewing toys not slippers, etc., etc….If this is your first dog and you don’t know where to start this book is possibly useful – but you’re probably better with a dedicated puppy training book. Otherwise I’d give it a miss.

Great book. There is a huge variety of games …
Great book. There is a huge variety of games and enough details so that you can see how to teach it.Claire covers everything quickly but it is practical and detailed. The text is broken down into short paragraphs with headers so it is easy to find what you are looking for.The first part of the book is setting the scene. How to train, when, where, safety, keeping it fun and so on.The rest of the book is different types of games organised into groups that help you select the best games to play either by location, age of your dog or type of game. Each game has an introduction that covers why to play that game and at what stage in your dogs life or training. There is a coloured block that gives a brief outline of the type and difficulty of the game and props required. Teaching the game is explained using lots of pictures and the steps in smaller print. This is the only thing I found annoying as it is not so easy to read but at least it keeps the book smaller and packed with info.

A fun way to train your dog without it realising
The book is full of interesting games which will learn to both you and your dog learning and bonding without realising what hard work you are doing.I have been training my Border Collie (18 months) and my Flatcoated Retriever pup (10 months) and this book explains how to set up the games and how to improve and make the training harder. It is very well set out and I am was so impressed with the book that I have bought a second copy for my daughter and her dogs.Highly recommended

I’m using this book to help train my puppy. Games are a great way to get your dog to learn how to interact and play. Great information . Great purchase.

  8. Anne

I’ve read a lot of dog training books, but this is the best one I’ve seen. It has a great variety of games, and also a lot of mentally and physically challenging exercises that are really fun for both you and your dog. I was impressed at how clearly everything was explained so that it’s easier to teach your dog. There were some pretty easy tricks, and some advanced ones. There is something for every type of dog in this! The author even has tricks pertaining to the type of dog you have – whether it be a hound, herding dog, or whatever other group.I have trained my dog over 10 tricks, and we literally ran out of tricks, because I didn’t know what else I could teach him. Other books have the typical tricks that my dog knows, but this book has been the only one that has plenty of original and fun tricks for him to learn, on top of what he’s already been trained. I highly recommend this!

It has many games to stimulate the dog’s brain and build relationships with their owner. Several of our dog club members have now bought the book and one has been added to our Library at our Dog Club.
